Welcome

Hello and welcome to my site! Here you will find all the information you need about the charming, traditional hilltop village of Valon and the holiday experience I can create for you in one of my two beautiful gîtes. You may be wondering what a gîte is: "gîte" is a French word meaning self-catering holiday cottage available for rent.

Nestled among green hills of the Aveyron region in south-central France and off the beaten track, my gîtes are ideally-located for people who love nature and the outdoors, or are simply seeking a peaceful location to relax and get away from it all (don't worry though - the gîtes have wifi!). With traditional stone architecture that will take you back to another time, Valon is a tranquil village featuring a 12th-century château renovated to its former glory and offering panoramic views of the surrounding valley.

For those of you looking for a little more adventure, there are many activities within a short distance, including great restaurants and many historic and cultural sites. To name just a few of the notable places to visit: the newly-opened Musée Soulages in nearby Rodez; the UNESCO world-heritage site St. Foy abbey-church in nearby Conques; the Cantal region, well-known for its local produce and inactive volcanoes; and finally, Laguiole, the birthplace of the world-famous Laguiole knife. A few of the nearby restaurants include: Auberge des Montagnes in Pailherols, Bras in Laguiole and Auberge du Peyral in La Vinzelle. Valon is also located only 30 minutes away from the famous Route of Santiago de Compostela.

Valon is very close to a leisure lake where you can swim safely, hire boats, and sit and have a drink and a bite to eat in the café. In the summer, there is a lifeguard on duty and a child-friendly swimming area. This is located 15 minutes away in the village of Saint Gervais.

Recently renovated to a high standard, all the  gîtes are very well-equipped to help make your stay here more relaxing. I provide some basic amenities such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt, toilet rolls, etc. to make the start of your holiday easier. You will also be greeted with a welcome basket. Pets are more than welcome.

You can also help yourselves to the vegetable and herb garden located on the property. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are usually plenty of fresh pickings. Likewise, many varieties of wild fruit and vegetables grow in the forests surrounding Valon and I would be more than happy to show you walking paths where you can pick wild raspberries, strawberries and mushrooms.

It is important to me that you enjoy your stay here and I will do everything I can to make this happen. If you have any special requirements, just send me an email at info@everything-valon.com or give me a call at +33 (0) 5 81 36 14 54  or +33 (0) 6 59 01 28 68 and I will try to arrange for them to be ready for your arrival.
